Sara Krikau is the Founder and Artistic Director of St. Charles Dance Theatre. She is also co-creator with all collaborating dance artists & choreographers of the progressive movement of STCDT productions.

Sara Krikau began her dance training in Chicago with renowned ballet teacher Larry Long at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts and with the Royal Danish Ballet (summer program) on scholarship. Her professional career as a dancer has taken her to every state in the U.S. and abroad, touring 13 countries in Europe, Russia, and Cuba. She has performed at the Olympics, the World's Fair, and at Oxford University with the C.S. Lewis Institute.

Sara's career landed her in New York City where she performed as a soloist with the Bessie Award winning Saba Dance Theatre, the new New Dance Group Company, and the Albano Ballet Company. While dancing with Saba Dance Theatre, Sara had the opportunity to be photographed by Lois Greenfield. Sara's performance work has spanned from traditional classical roles to the modern works of Jane Dudley, Sophie Maslow, and Eve Gentry to name a few; and to the post-modern work of Carmen Beuchat and the contemporary work of

Anabella Lenzu.

New York offered Sara the opportunity to study acting with Robert X. Modica (co-teacher with Sandy Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse) at Carnegie Hall Studios, and specifically study the Meisner technique with Matthew Corozine at the Matthew Corozine Studio Theatre. It was here, at MCS, she was granted the opportunity to perform scenes from a handful of playwrights.

Sara has studied choreography under Jenny Backhaus of Backhausdance while attending Irvine Valley College in Southern California.

As a choreographer, Sara has premiered two works, "Still", and "The Melting" at the Elgin Ties Dance Festival of which she is the co-founder of with fellow native Erin Rehberg.  Sara has presented works of choreography for several local dance academies at the Hemmen's Cultural Center and in Chicago-based dance competitions. Her competitive choreography has earned awards and she took a third place rank overall in her very first competition.

Sara has collaborated with Chamber Music on the Fox, members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and conductor Andrew Hilary Grams for a production of "L'Histoire du Soldat" by Igor Stravinsky.

Sara continues to seek out new collaborations with dancers, musicians, and actors for new works of art. She has been asked to serve as a member of the Elgin Cultural Arts Commission, has served as part of the Artist Selection Committee for the Elgin Artspace Lofts, and is currently on the advisory board of Kane Repertory Theatre here in Kane County.
